Collinsville
Inside city limits, yard waste pickup through Republic Services is optional. The city’s page lists it as running April 1 through December 31, billed quarterly, with up to eight biodegradable bags or eight 32-gallon personal containers a week. Call Republic at (618) 656-6883 to sign up. Burning leaves is not allowed in city limits. Since January 1, 2025 the city issues permits for bonfires and a few other kinds of burns, but leaves, brush and grass are still on the prohibited list.
In unincorporated Collinsville Township (which also covers unincorporated parts of Maryville, Glen Carbon and Pontoon Beach), the Township Highway Department runs curbside leaf vacuuming in late fall. Rake leaves to the curb once your street or subdivision is posted, and have them out by Monday to be picked up that week. Residents can also bring bagged leaves (paper bags only) to the yard waste dumpster at 1407 N. Bluff Road, weekdays 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with proof of residency. Questions: (618) 344-0013.
Edwardsville
Republic Services picks up yard waste every week, year-round, on your regular trash day. Use paper yard-waste bags (no plastic) or trash cans of 35 gallons or less marked with a large red “X.” Keep bags and cans under 50 pounds. Tie branches up to 3 inches thick and 4 feet long into bundles about 2 feet wide. Leaf burning is banned by ordinance inside city limits. Questions go to Republic at (618) 656-6883 or Public Works at (618) 692-7535.
Belleville
Belleville’s Sanitation Department takes leaves in two-ply Kraft paper bags or in cans of 32 gallons or less with “Yard Waste” on the side in letters at least 4 inches high. Cans need handles and a detachable lid, no wheels, and a 60-pound limit. Plastic bags aren’t accepted, and everything has to be out by 6 a.m. The city’s Collection Schedule page lists weekly pickup from March 2, 2026 through January 2, 2027. After that, pickup only happens in the second full week of January (Jan. 11–15, 2027) and February (Feb. 8–12, 2027). The city’s New Resident Packet gives December 18 as the last weekly date, so check the Collection Schedule page before your last big December rake. All open burning, including leaves, has been banned in city limits since December 16, 2011 (Ordinance 7417). Sanitation office: (618) 233-6816.
Glen Carbon
Yard waste pickup is a Republic Services subscription. Sign up at (618) 656-6883. There’s a 3-month minimum, billed quarterly. The limit is ten paper bags or 32-gallon cans per week, and cans used for yard waste need a 2-foot by 2-foot red “X.” Keep each bag or can under 50 pounds, and bundle sticks up to 4 inches thick in 2-by-4-foot bundles tied with twine. Pickup is on Wednesdays, April through December. Not subscribed? The village’s Public Works facility at 153 N. Main Street takes bagged yard waste from residents on set Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The rest of the 2026 dates are October 24, November 14 and December 5.
O’Fallon
According to the City’s FAQ, Waste Management collects yard waste, including leaves, curbside once a week year-round at single-family homes. Use your own containers, WM-provided containers or paper yard-waste bags, up to 12 per pickup. Bundled sticks can be no longer than 3 feet, no wider than 6 inches and no heavier than 50 pounds. Pickup never starts before 6 a.m.
Three habits that save you a missed pickup
- Buy paper bags before the big drop. No town on this list takes leaves in plastic bags.
- Don’t overfill. Wet leaves get heavy fast, and limits run 50 to 60 pounds per bag or can.
- Keep piles out of the street. Leaves in the gutter line can wash into storm drains. In the Township, pile them at the curb only after your street is posted.
When hiring help makes sense (and when it doesn’t)
If you have a small lot and a pickup plan that fits, you probably don’t need us for leaves. A rake and a stack of paper bags will do it. Hiring help makes sense when big oaks and maples bury the yard more than once, when beds and fence lines are packed, when lifting 50-pound bags isn’t realistic, or when it’s a rental you can’t get to every weekend.
Topclean’s leaf cleanup covers lawns, beds and hard surfaces, and a full cleanup includes haul-away, so bag limits don’t matter. If you’d rather use your town’s pickup, just tell us and we’ll leave the bags at the curb. Leaf jobs are quoted by phone or text so we can ask about tree cover and lot size. Leaves in the yard usually mean leaves in the gutters too, so see when to book fall gutter cleaning in the St. Louis area and our gutter cleaning page.
Leaf cleanup by town: Collinsville, Maryville, Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Belleville and O’Fallon, plus the rest of our service areas.
Rules change when cities sign new hauler contracts. We checked every rule above against official city, village or township pages on October 7, 2026. Call the number listed for your town if something looks different.
